Ahti Heila and Janus Friis were two of the founders of Skype. Both ended their tenure with the company in 2008 and have turned their focus from connection people to making grocery delivery cheaper for consumers.

Starship Technology is trying to cut costs for shopping delivery by using autonomous robots to make trips with up to two bags of groceries. The six wheeled robots, using various gyroscopic and GPS technologies will eliminate much the costs on the last few kilometers of delivery – where most of the cost is incurred. The robots will also have human controllers in case a trip goes awry.

The company plans to start using the droids in the US, the UK and other countries later this year.
